I will develop this argument in three interrelated sections. Many people believe that street art and graffiti fall into the same category, that they are one in the same. Street artists simply try to do their part to make the world a happier place to live by bringing color and nature to the mundane city streets.

Some artists express their thoughts on canvas, wood, stone, glass and others just would like to put away all traditional ways and find different public spaces the best for the expression of their ideas. It will argue that street artists can and should use their artwork to bring nature to the mundane, grey, bleak, walls of boring city buildings or streets.

The common goal among the treasure hunters was to be the first person to find the Banksy artwork. It is the only way some people communicate dissenting messages to the public.

By altering the original intent of a commercial image, the final meaning changes. Pieces similar to this one have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars to celebrity errs such as Brad Pit, Angelina Joliet, and Christina Agiler Moran. In addition to symbolic language, the materials and techniques that are commonly associated with street artists also help them stand apart from graffiti writers.

To those who have some knowledge and appreciation of tagging, public spaces can be like historical digs. The first image is from my hometown of Dayton, Ohio, and the second is from my current city of South Bend, Indiana.

Graffiti writing and street art are very similar to other types of self-expressive artwork with the exception that what graffiti writers and street artists do in public, unless sanctioned by a property owner, is illegal. By using humor, irony and absurdity, street art communicates on a more conceptual level than graffiti writing.

Some street artists work similarly to traditional artists, creating something beautiful, conceptual or stylistically intriguing, the only difference is that they want to display their artwork outside the gallery setting and in the public eye. This and other works of street art bring admirers and viewers out into nature.

The main difference between graffiti writing and street art is intention. Though people can argue that such art is vandalism, it can nevertheless add to the artistic appeal of a city and connect the city to nature. That being said, disposable art should be worn away by nature, and not by other artists or citizens.

In public art and street art there really is no difference. We are all animals, and need to be protected and sustained as much as any other part of nature. Street art has in recent years been seen as something with intrinsic value, with artist Banksy earning large sums of money for his wall stencils, and street art in Melbourne, for example, being recognised as part of the city’s heritage and culture.

Typically the term street art, or post-graffiti, is used to distinguish contemporary public-space artwork from territorial graffiti, vandalism, and corporate art.
